Abalos To Address High Electricity Rates

By Mona Lagbas

March 12, 2025, Cagayan de Oro City_ Senatorial aspirant Benhur Abalos Wednesday bewailed the high cost of electricity in the country and vowed to author appropriate resolutions to address this reality once elected into the Senate this May.

Speaking to reporters at a local hotel, the former DILG Secretary assailed what he called the spiralling cost of electricity, adding that this problem affects our economy.

Abalos, also a former congressman and multi-awarded mayor of Mandaluyong, decried the collateral damage brought upon our country in terms of decreased employment and withdrawn investments due to unabated increases in electric rates.

A lawyer by profession and an occasional actor, Abalos said that unnecessary taxes added to electric bills should be removed. He said that the Philippines is noted as having the highest electric power costs.

Abalos, who also served as the chairman of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, said that he will champion his advocacy for the streamlining of the cost of this essential commodity.

Abalos is ranked as number 1 in the senatorial race under the Alyansa Ng Bagong Pilipinas.
