CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan de Oro City – The 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division of the Philippine Army continues its successful campaign against the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) operating in the Caraga region, achieving significant victories following a leadership change on Tuesday, January 28, 2025.
On the same day, separate encounters with remnants of the CTG took place in Butuan City and San Agustin, Surigao del Sur province, resulting in the deaths of two Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) terrorists (CNTs) and the capture of three high-powered firearms.
Troops from the 29th Infantry Battalion, led by Lt. Col. Mark S. Tabon under the 901st Infantry Brigade, engaged in a 10-minute firefight with about 10 CTG members from Platoon 1 of the Sub-Regional Sentro de Grabidad Westland (SRSDG-WL) of the North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee (NEMRC) at Sitio Dinakpan in Barangay Los Angeles, Butuan City. The firefight resulted in the neutralization of two CNTs and the seizure of one AK-47 rifle, one Bushmaster rifle, medical supplies, and personal belongings. Meanwhile, the 3rd Special Forces Battalion (3SFBn), led by Lt. Col. Jason F. Pangandoyon and under the operational control of the 401st Infantry Brigade, engaged CTG elements twice in Barangay Pong-On, San Agustin, Surigao del Sur. In the first encounter, troops recovered one AK-47 rifle with a magazine, three backpacks, and medical supplies. In the second clash, four suspected CTG members were captured and are currently undergoing verification and identification.
Brigadier General Michele B. Anayron Jr., Commander of the 4ID, praised the dedication and bravery of the troops involved in these successful operations, which marked a strong start to the division's continued fight against the CTG.
“These successful operations showcase the 4ID’s steadfast commitment to ending decades of insurgency and achieving lasting peace for the people of Caraga. We urge the remaining members of the communist terrorist group to surrender and take advantage of the government’s reintegration programs for a peaceful life,” BGen Anayron Jr. said.
The 4ID remains committed to ensuring peace and security in Northern Mindanao and Caraga. Working in partnership with local government units, stakeholders, and communities, the division under its new leadership is actively striving to eliminate the influence of Communist Terrorist Groups (CTGs) in the region while promoting peace.
