On behalf of the men and women of Police Station 2 (Cogon), Cagayan de Oro City Police Office, we, would like to address the issues hurled among the PNP personnel in which the information being spread throughout the social media is blatant and offensive.

First and foremost, we wish to clarify the incident and express our sentiments regarding the online post, which we consider inaccurate and detrimental to the reputation of our men in uniform.

The PNP operates under strict adherence to rules, regulations, and the provisions outlined in the Police Operational Procedures. When a crime is committed, proper legal processes must be followed, including the conduct of an investigation, observance of due process, and verification of facts. In this case, an arrest was not carried out because the conditions for a warrantless arrest were not present. We emphasize that spreading false or misleading information is punishable under existing laws.

As for the matter involving the broken glass door, both parties involved denied responsibility and blamed the other. In the absence of an eyewitness or clear evidence, the PNP could not immediately determine who was at fault. The elements of a warrantless arrest were not met, as the crime was neither committed in the presence of police officers nor did the responding officers have personal knowledge of the incident.

Personnel from Police Station 2, including our City Director, PCOL SALVADOR N RADAM, acted with prudence, professionalism, and impartiality, ensuring that both parties were given the opportunity to be heard and that their rights were fully respected.

We stand by the PNP's commitment to uphold peace and order, and we trust that the public understands the distinction between factual reporting and unfounded social media rumors.

To those spreading false information, we remind you that cyber libel is a criminal offense under Republic Act No. 10175. We are currently consulting with legal professionals to determine the appropriate course of action.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding. Let us all work together to promote truth, respect, and responsible use of social media.
