MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--Following their most recent operation here that led to the neutralization of the leader of the Dawlah Islamiya - Maute Group (DI-MG) and his companion, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has firmly underscored the vital role of engaging with the community to finally put an end on violent extremism and local terrorism.

Police Regional Office Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO BAR) Regional Director PBGen. Allan Cruz Nobleza stressed that engaging with the community has been one of the five focused agenda of the PNP.

He stated that they have been sticking to this principle, believing that civilians on the ground can give first-hand information which is crucial for the fast response of the police and military.

Nobleza added that local government units bear the same part in preventing and countering violent extremism as this battle entails good governance.

“The police are in support of informing the communities of the ill effects of this terrorism. The different stakeholders like the non-government organizations and local government units are very vital and active partners in informing the public about the ill effects of terrorism in the Bangsamoro region,” he said.

With the rapport with locals that they are trying to build, Nobleza is positive that they can pursue appropriate programs geared toward peace and stability in the entire Bangsamoro region. (CRG/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
